HAVE YOU PRAYED?

Sue O’Donnell. 26.08.20

“I am never in a hurry, because I never undertake more work than I can get through with perfect calmness of spirit.” (John Wesley)

The mistakes you have made

Have you prayed?

Call on the Spirit,

In Him we inherit

The truth by which Jesus

Makes His home with us.

Have you disobeyed?

Have you prayed?

Ask for God’s mercy

It is gifted freely,

To all who believe in Jesus,

God being with us.

Have you acted independently?

Have you prayed?

Solo working invites error,

Out of which we are then burdened

By a sense of terror,

Forgetting God’s mercy.

Are you ignoring the warning?

Have you prayed?

Feelings are given

As red lights, amber and green,

Helping our assessment

As to where faith has been.

Are you God’s insight forgetting?

Have you prayed?

The Spirit’s gifting is invaluable,

He forges friendship with Jesus,

Transforming the mistakes we make

Into stepping stones of progress.

God’s Word to be heard.

Have you prayed?

Call on the Spirit

To graced wisdom inherit,

Changing the time

Re-making it fine.

Holy love is active in power.

Have you prayed?

Holy love is insistent.

It is ever consistent.

God with us in Jesus,

What heaven sent goodness!

Did you offer your praise?

Have you prayed?

Did you truly amaze

And express your gratitude?

As love is faith’s attitude,

Have you prayed?

Prayer is the means

Most marvellous means God given

By which, through Jesus,

Led by the Holy Spirit,

We learn to communicate

With the Lord God Almighty of heaven,

Seeking to do so daily.

For all the benefits wrought by prayer

Are richer by far than anything else.

We can enhance life readily and steadily.

Have you prayed?

“Ego says ‘Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace’. Spirit says, ‘Find your peace, then everything will fall into place.” (Marianne Williamson)

“The soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thoughts.” (Marcus Aurelius)

Lord, surely that is why we are told never to be anxious. Anxiety causes one negative thought to ride on the back of another. Please send Your Spirit to help us to pray.

Let us set the day aright by placing our plans, ideas, hopes, dreams, ambitions before You, so we can make decisions in the light of Your love.

May we never be too busy to pray. T.S. Eliot wisely said “Indeed there will be time...” We will always find time for that which we value most highly. This should be our friendship with You. Lord Jesus.

As You are the way home to heaven, we need You with us continuously, please stay by our side to teach, support and guide us by Your Spirit of love.

Thank You for this energising, life enhancing, hope building Spirit. He is life to us for He deepens and emboldens our friendship with You, the point of access to our all loving Father.

I appreciate how in prayer we do not always need to be seeking, asking of You. For “Sometimes, saying nothing says the most.” (Emily Dickinson) as we simply lift our heart and mind to You.

Thank You that in prayer You always deal with our troubles, trials and many tribulations. Recently You helped me battle with fear. The breakthrough came by frequently praying.

It is so beneficial how the Holy Spirit will bring a sacred text to mind, so You speak to us. “Do not be afraid of sudden terror,” I read “Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes.” (Proverbs 3 v 25)

‘Why not’? I thought. The answer shone as clearly as the bright light of noon: “For the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.” (v 26)

Thank You for Your help, Your care, Your love. Thank You for the impact of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for prayer. Thank You for You as a Trinity of love and mercy.

Oh Lord, the love and care we share in prayer is unsurpassed. Thank You for this marvellous and momentous quality which is added to life as we pray. Amen.
